What does working for AnnaLovesBooks entail?

E-mail Print PDF

This is one of those jobs where how much you make and how hard you work is almost entirely up to you. Believe me, that almost always sounds greater than it is.

We're hiring for two really similar positions. If you've got a referral from someone that already works for us, you can qualify for job #2. If not, you'll need to work your way up the ladder. Why? Because we're going to hire you online, sight unseen, just because you want a job. That's a risk we're willing to take, but we're going to need to get to know you before we just give you the keys.

Job #1 - JOB REQUIREMENTS: Are you breathing? You're hired.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Buy books. Ship them to us. Sit back and await your profits.

No, really, that's all there is to it. Buy books and send them to us. Enclose a receipt for the books and, when they arrive, we'll reimburse you for the books AND the shipping fees. We will list them for sale and, when they sell, you will get 25% percent of the profits of the sale. AnnaLovesBooks sells on various venues (Amazon is our only active venue right now) and those venues charge fees.

So, for example:
Your book cost $.50
Your book sells for $10.00
The venue charges 10%, or $1.00
The profit is $8.50
You get $2.13 (we'll give you the penny rather than quibble over it)

Big money? Sometimes, but often not. Do it enough times and it adds up. Do it well and it REALLY adds up. And, no - we're not going to throw you out there without any help. We offer on-the-job training.

Job #2 - JOB REQUIREMENTS: A referral from a trusted AnnaLovesBooks employee OR a minimum of 1 year on the job with us.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Did you read Job #1? Good. This job starts the same but ends better.

Buy books, list the books for sale, ship them to the warehouse, sit back and await your profits. Your percentage is now at 50% of the profits! In the example above, you'd get $4.25. Hey, you do more work, you make more money.

Of course, we still reimburse you for the books and we still pay for the shipping.

BONUS! We really do give away 25% of OUR profits. That means after we pay you, we give away another chunk. We're suckers for kids, so the non-profits we give to benefit kids in some way. If you know of a non-profit that we ought to add to our list, you're more than welcome to suggest them to us!

Will you buy my books?

E-mail Print PDF

Yes.

Too easy? Okay, okay...

Yes, we'll buy your books, but the price will depend on a couple factors. We're not going to lie about this - one factor is that we need to be able to make money from re-selling them. We're all about giving away money, but we need to earn first! Paperbacks must have a front and back cover. No book should have damage from any liquid.

Send a list of your books and we'll email you an offer. There are two options for your list:

1) make a list of ISBNs. The ISBN is found on the back cover or inside, on the copyright page. If your book does not have an ISBN (they didn't always exist), see #2

2) include the binding (hardcover, paperback, board book, spiral bound, etc), title, author, publisher's name and publication date. Most of that info will be found on the copyright page. If you have trouble finding any of it, feel free to ask us for help.

Email the list to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

What next?

We'll send you an offer. You can accept or reject it. If you accept it, you'll need to pack up the books in a box and tell us how much it weighs. We'll pay for the shipping and when the package arrives, we'll check in your books and contact you about your payment. You can take your payment via PayPal or we can send you a money order, whatever you like.

If you reject it... well, that does sound like the end of the transaction, doesn't it? Doesn't have to be! Remember, our price is based on our ability to turn around and sell them again, for more money. If you worked for AnnaLovesBooks, you'd be able to make more than the offer. For that, you'll need to go see the answer to "What does working for AnnaLovesBooks entail?"

What is the Lost & Found?

E-mail Print PDF

You do know what a lost and found is, right? A place where things that are found are left to be claimed by those who lost them? Right. So this is that, only genealogical. And historical. And a little random-ness. Most of it is available to purchase in digital form, some of it will be for sale in physical form.

A basic list of the types of things we find, and list:

  • letters
  • postcards
  • yearbooks
  • photos
  • photo albums
  • wills
  • bills
  • receipts
  • checks
  • deeds
  • court records
  • cards

Essentially anything that might have belonged to your ancestor. This stuff belonged to someone's ancestor! The growing number of crazed scrapbookers who take one-of-a-kind, irreplacable documents and turn them into cutsie scrapbook decorations seems to grow every day. This is my effort to reclaim as many of those things as I can afford to buy. I sell them for as little as possible - just enough to make enough to keep rescuing more items without breaking YOUR bank.

Some items are of more historical interest, like ads. Even full books, if we're as sure as we can be that they're out of copyright. There's really very little that we won't try to save!

What does it cost to register?

Registration is free. The only cost is for the individual purchase of an item.

Why should I register?

E-mail Print PDF

I'll be completely honest here. Whether you register or not, you have access to every record I list. Those records include all the information I have and small images of the item itself.

In order to purchase anything, however, you'll need to be registered.
